British values run through everything we do at Crawford's CofE Primary

School and are actively promoted through our school vision, ethos, agreed

rules, curriculum and teaching. 

 

We value all children and undertake a variety of events and lessons to

celebrate diversity and achievements across the curriculum, as well as

including a range of curriculum topics which have strong links to the British Empire.

 

Our Crawford's Cogs and Christian Values further support British values across the school, giving opportunities to focus on areas such as respect, team work, determination and reflectiveness.

As a school we understand these values to be defined as:

Tolerance of those of Different Faiths
 

In order to promote these values within our school, examples of some of the activities we undertake include:

* An elected school council where pupils voices are heard, issues are discussed and projects are planned and undertaken.

* Collective worship, which actively promotes Christian Values. Each of these values forms a half termly focus and are promoted across the school throughout the school day.

* Opportunities for children to discuss the laws that govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.

* A behaviour policy, which encourages tolerance and mutual respect. Children have a clear understanding of right and wrong.

* Established close links with the local community and the local church. We often visit the church and the vicar and our local 'Open the Book' team visit our school on a fortnightly basis to lead worship. Once a month we visit the church for our whole school community 'Church Assembly'.

* Close links with the Royal British Legion. We commemorate key events in British History through the raising of flags. A group of children accompanies members of the Royal British Legion to the flagpole, learn about the event and then raise the flag. Remembrance Day is an important event in our school calendar. Members of the Royal British Legion join us for lunch and we attend a special Remembrance Service each year.

* Opportunities for children to develop their understanding of democracy through focussed lessons on current affairs. The election in 2015 offered good opportunities to learn about the democratic system. The older children within the school held their own election and investigated the election process in detail.

* R.E. lessons, which follow the Emmanuel Project; we introduce children to a range of World Faiths and complete a range of deeper studies throughout the year. Our long-term curriculum plans outline the topics covered within our Religious Education programme.
